Inspired By: Tom Kundig

We are lucky to work in an industry where we have the opportunity to express ourselves — our personalities, values, perspectives and inspirations — through our work. As true as that is, it's still easy to get lost in the gritty details of daily agency life. A barrage of emails, conference calls, deadlines and budget realities can sometimes make you forget the world at large.

In Seattle, we've found it helpful to take a step back every so often and be reminded of the bigger picture. What are the things that drive us? From where do we draw our deepest inspiration?  What moves us? We know that our best work is rooted in answering these kinds of questions, so we don't take them lightly. The result is a presentation series that we call "Inspired By." Every quarter we bring in a professional from the outside of our own industry – architects, musicians, artists, technologists, entrepreneurs – and ask them one simple question:  What inspires you?

We started our latest series with globally-renowned architect Tom Kundig. Tom is principal/owner of the Seattle-based firm Olson Kundig Architects. His designs have been honored with many of the most prestigious awards in architecture, he has published over 450 times and has twice been named to the Top Ten Most Innovative Companies in Architecture by Fast Company.  In late Fall of 2012, we invited Tom into our office to share a glimpse into his work and process, as well as the source of his inspiration.

Watch the video above to hear how Tom's childhood, mountain climbing and hot rods have all shaped his creative process.

Inspired By events are hosted  out of our Seattle office. Keep an eye on the POSSIBLE Facebook for future invitations. For those who can't join us in person, we hope to share more of these talks on our site.
